A group project where we wanted to experiment with typefaces, while looking for inspiration in everyday life. The challenge was: how might we design a typeface based on everyday objects?
The font Times New Blueprint was inspired by blueprints of old clock mechanisms. It gives new life to old clock mechanism design in a form of modern typography.
We have tried to play around and created 2 different versions of the font. One that is more formal, and the other one that is more playful and vibrant, where we have combined the letters with geometric shapes.
I was involved in all stages of the project from research to execution. Each of four members of the group, including me, has created six to seven letters of the typeface.
PROCESS
We mixed the anatomy of letters with the mechanical elements of a clock. On the pencil sketches to the left, the thin lines portray the mechanical elements similar to those on a blueprint to the right. Moreover the elements are combined with traditional letters to create a more consistent look.ff
SOLUTION
Two versions of the final typeface, as well as some typography posters.
